Santorini, Greece is one of the most beautiful and desirable vacation destinations in the world! What better way to explore the island of Santorini then on a catamaran snorkeling and drinking Greek wine and beer.
We pre-booked a Semi-Private Catamaran Cruise with Spiridakos Sailing Cruises. We visited Greece during it’s high season, therefore decided it would be a good idea to book in advance to guarantee our spot. I would recommend booking in advance if you are going to Santorini (June-September). We paid approximately 110 USD each and it was SO worth every penny! We spent the day sailing, snorkeling, drinking and soaking in the sun, which made for an amazing day!
Below I will explain why I believe you should book a Catamaran tour, as well as information on my personal experience touring the Aegean Sea with Spiridakos Sailing Cruises!
What to Expect
- Transfer from your hotel and back in an air conditioned mini van
- Snorkeling equipment
- BBQ & Greek buffet on board, vegetarian options available
- Non Alcoholic beverages, beers and local wines
- Towels on board
The Catamaran tour is a total of 5 hours and allows you to travel with an intimate group of 20 or fewer fellow passengers. Our catamaran had 16 people and we all had more than enough space to enjoy the boat comfortably. The main reason we chose the semi private tour was because we didn’t want to cruise on an overcrowded boat. If you’re looking for a more private sail then this is the perfect option for you. If you want a completely private tour and your budget allows, then by all means go for it! Spiridakos provides private charters as well.
What to Bring
- Change of clothes
- Go Pro/waterproof camera
- Sandals or water shoes
- Ziplock bag – for your phone
- Sunscreen
- Hat
The Tour Experience
A mini van picked us up at our hotel in Imerovigli and drove us to the marina. After traveling to the marina and boarding the catamaran we set out on the Aegean Sea.
On board, the friendly and attentive crew provided impeccable service, learning everyone’s names and where they were from. Drinks began flowing shortly into the sail – water, beer, wine or various options of soft drinks. We lounged on the deck of the catamaran and lusted over the eye-popping Santorini coastline.
The views were incredible and there really is no other way to see them unless you are on a boat at sea. I enjoyed just laying on the mesh in the front part of the catamaran, sipping on greek wine while the sun soaked in my skin and the wind blew in my face!
Throughout the day, we stopped at a number of swimming locations, the first of which involves jumping off the ship and having to swim a short way to the intended destination – the shallow rust coloured volcanic springs.
TIP: Avoid wearing any white swimwear because it will get stained. Trust me, I made that mistake.
As we enjoyed ourselves, the crew was making us a wonderful lunch. We really worked up an appetite after all that. Lunch was delicious – fish, chicken, pasta, fresh BBQ seafood, along with Greek salad. Everything was simply delicious.
Following lunch, we sailed along the coast for a while before, we were able to swim in the hot springs of the caldera, see famed beaches and mountains, snorkel and spend more time on board in the brilliant company of the crew and fellow travellers from around the world. It was nice to meet others and by the end of trip it seemed that everyone had made friends.

Overall this was one of the best experiences I have had on a vacation. The views you will see on this trip are breathtakingly beautiful! The Spiridakos Sailing Cruise was an excellent experience and one to remember. The boat was top notch and in pristine condition. The captain and crew were professional, friendly and helpful. If you are in Santorini I highly recommend you book this tour!

This is such a great idea!! It’s nice to have a smaller group so you can explore a bit more at your own pace. And the food looks amazing too, of course. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! This was one of the best excursions I have ever been on! The fact that it was a small group was great too!
